Los Angeles striker Carlos Ruiz has suggested that he will retire from international soccer after World Cup 2010, and says he wants to make sure his country qualifies to the showcase event for the first time.
The 28-year old says it was tough after narrowly missing out on the playoff with Asian side Bahrain that Trinidad & Tobago used to reach the Finals in Germany.
"I don't think I'll keep playing for the national team once this qualifying campaign is over," Ruiz told FIFA.com. "What I'm aiming to do is to make the fans' dream a reality."
"I'm hoping this is the opportunity that we've all been waiting for to qualify, for the FIFA World Cup finals and that way I can bow out having made history."
As for his other dream of one day playing in Europe, El Pescadito claims that window is now in the act of closing.
"I've got a comfortable life in the United States and at my age that's very important," said the forward. "I'd only consider offers that were on a par with my current situation, and they haven't materialized as yet."
