The 2015 Women’s World Cup is down to the final 2 games and FIFA announced the finalists for the adidas Golden Ball, adidas Golden Glove, and Hyundai Young Player Awards on Tuesday. The U.S. women’s national team has 3 players in the running for the Golden Ball and Hope Solo is a finalist for the Golden Glove.
The Golden Ball is awarded to the top player at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The Silver Ball and Bronze Ball are awarded to the 2nd and 3rd best players, respectively. The 3 finalists from the Stars and Stripes are team captain Carli Lloyd, midfielder Megan Rapinoe, and defender Julie Johnston.
The other 5 finalists are Japan’s Saori Ariyoshi and Aya Miyama, Lucy Bronze of England, Amandine Henry of France, and Celia Sasic of Germany.
The adidas Golden Glove does to the top goalkeeper of the tournament. The finalists are the U.S’s Hope Solo, Germany’s Nadine Angerer, and Japan’s Ayumi Kaihori.
The finalists for the Hyundai Young Player Award are Kadeisha Buchanan of Canada, Ada Hegerberg of Norway, and Jiali Tang of China.
The winners will be announced on July 5 after the FIFA Women’s World Cup final.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup Golden Boot and Silver Boot winners as the tournament’s top 2 goalscorers will also be announced on July 5. But it looks as though Germany will take both awards with Sasic leading all goalscorers with 6 goals and team mate Anja Mittag sitting on 5 goals.
Carli Lloyd is the closest challenger sitting on 3 goals with 7 other players, none of whom have a game remaining.
