West Ham United have agreed a five-year kit deal with Umbro, that will begin in the 2015/16 season. Umbro were the first ever sportswear company to produce the Hammers kits in the 1960s, and more recently the two worked together from 2007 – 2010.
The deal comes at a pivotal time in the club’s history, with Umbro set to play a big part. The 2015/16 season will be West Ham’s final season at the famous Upton Park ground, and Umbro will produce commemorative kits to be worn that season. The next season West Ham will move to the Olympic Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, an 80,000 capacity arena that was built for the London Olympics in 2012.
West Ham United Vice-Chairman Karren Brady said: “As we approach two historic seasons for West Ham United, we are delighted once again to team up with Umbro, a company which – like West Ham – is steeped in the heritage of English football but also a fast-growing global brand with an exciting future ahead”.
Paul Nugent, Vice President of Global Marketing for Umbro, added: “West Ham United is an incredibly exciting and significant signing for Umbro. This is a special period in the club’s history and we are delighted to be part of it. We know the last season at the Boleyn Ground will be an emotional one and we have worked closely with the club – with input from Hammers fans – to create a memorable set of kits to commemorate the final season”.
West Ham will join the likes of Everton, PSV Eindhoven, Gremio and the Republic of Ireland in wearing Umbro kits.
