Abby Wambach, the all-time leading goal scorer for women or men, with 184 goals in 252 matches announced today that she will hang up her cleats at the close of the U.S. women’s national team’s victory tour against China in New Orleans on Wednesday, December 16.
The 35-year-old has been a key to the Stars and Stripes success since earning her first cap against Germany in September 2001.
The announcement has come with players and fans getting on social media discussing the impact of the veteran player.
