After what can only be described as a historic summer for U.S. soccer as the USWNT won a record 3rd FIFA Women’s World Cup making them the most dominate women’s team on the planet, the team is again breaking boundaries on the home front.
It was announced earlier this week that celebrated sports magazine, Sports Illustrated, would be doing a special set of covers on their next issue to honor the historic achievement of the team. Instead of the usual one cover to represent the whole team, Sports Illustrated is making 25 different covers.

The first 23 covers will feature each individual player, from backup keeper Alyssa Naeher to star striker Alex Morgan. The 24th cover will feature a shot of coach Jill Ellis and the 25th cover will feature a shot of the stars of the team.
This move by Sports Illustrated shows how important this victory was for not only the United States but women’s soccer around the world. Each one of the covers can be viewed on the Sports Illustrated website.
All of the players are wearing the new USWNT jersey featuring the 3 stars from the 3 World Cups won by the team. The new 3 star jerseys are available at World Soccer Shop. If you want to learn more about the significance of the 3 stars, check out our previous article.
