The New York Red Bulls travel west to face Real Salt Lake on Thursday night on ESPN2 and marks the opening on Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.

• This is the grand opening of Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah, a state-of-the-art, $110 million, 20,000-seat facility custom made to be the home of Real Salt Lake.
• In the first official MLS game played at each of the six venues built for MLS teams to date, the hosts have gone 3-1-2. In their respective new-stadium debuts, Columbus, LA and Colorado won, FC Dallas and Chicago tied and Toronto FC lost.
• The teams are tied in points, both on the bubble of the MLS Cup Playoff race. A loss for either team would be detrimental, but neither will be happy with a tie.
• New York has won just once in 13 road games; RSL has lost just once in 13 home games.
