Red Stars forward Lindsay Tarpley has been named Women’s Professional Soccer’s Player of the Week for Week 15, the league announced today. Tarpley becomes the first player in franchise history to earn the honor, which is selected by a panel of writers with the North American Soccer Reporters.
One of Chicago’s two team captains, Tarpley recorded a goal and an assist in leading the Red Stars to the first come-from-behind victory in WPS history, a 2-1 win over Washington July 1st. The Kalamazoo, Mich., native assisted Cristiane’s goal in the 48th minute before netting the game-winner in the 61st. Her three-point effort was the second-highest scoring individual game in franchise history.
Tarpley has scored three goals on the season, tying her for the Red Stars’ individual goal-scoring lead, and also has assisted on two goals. The U.S. Women’s National Team standout has seen in action in 13 games this year.
The Red Stars will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the U.S. championship at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup this Sunday, July 12th at TOYOTA PARK. World Cup heroes Brandi Chastain, Briana Scurry and Tiffeny Milbrett will be on hand to interact with fans. The Red Stars are offering a special 99-cent ticket offer for the 7 pm match, with an additional ticket purchased at the group discount rate. The first 100 fans to purchase tickets in the midfield section will have the opportunity to take a postgame photo with Chastain, Scurry and the 1999 World Cup trophy.
