Schmid: MLS Needs Bigger Squads
2008-09-05 17:41:56
After watching Chivas USA and New England dumped from the CONCACAF Champions League play-in round with stretched rosters, Columbus boss Sigi Schmid has urged the league to expand roster sizes.
"Those results don't look good for MLS," Schmid told the Columbus Dispatch.
If those debacles weren't enough evidence, Toronto FC were forced to play their last game missing 11 regulars from their 18-man senior squad.
"The 18-man (senior) roster needs to be expanded," he declared. "I think there are players in (USL) who are better than some players who are developmental MLS players - the depth is not there."
