by Greg Seltzer for Soccer365

There was plenty of drama for Americans Abroad packed into one game on Wednesday, thanks to Oguchi Onyewu and Standard Liege's heart-stopping 1-0 aggregate Champions League final qualifying round defeat to Liverpool.

The U.S. international played 120 sparkling minutes - aside from an extra time tackle in the area that went unpunished - as his team bravely bowed out on Dirk Kuyt's 118th minute goal.

Elsewhere, Clint Dempsey watched from the bench as Fulham eked out a 3-2 extra time Carling Cup win over visiting Leicester City on Danny Murphy's stoppage time strike.

Injured defender Jonathan Spector sat out West Ham's 4-1 advancement past guests Macclesfield, which was tied at ones until the 100th minute.
