USA defender Oguchi Onyewu admits reaching the final of the Confederations Cup is a major boost for the country.
The 2-0 victory over Spain on Wednesday has set up a date with Brazil in the final, the first ever in the USA's history.
The no-nonsense defender is delighted with the feat and is hoping that the team can go on and create more history on Sunday night.
The 27-year-old exclusively told Football365.co.za: "First of all this is history, I think we are the first US team to make it to the final of a major tournament.
"We were able to beat Spain who were on a 35 game unbeaten streak.
"Obviously this means a lot to us, this means a lot to our country and it means a lot to our programme.
"We are now going to try and take the next big step and try and win the final."
The USA were brilliant in defence against the free-flowing Spanish and they will need to be at their best again if they are to cause another massive upset.
