S365 Exclusive: Burns Completes Minor Repair
2008-11-26 15:22:02

by Greg Seltzer for Soccer365

Fresh off a solid rookie campaign for his demoted side, Ljungsklie keeper Colin Burns has undergone successful surgery to clean up after an old injury.

The American Abroad, who posted six clean sheets in 17 matches this term, reports the procedure will only have him laid up for another week or so.

"I had the surgery Monday in Gothenburg at the IFK-Kliniken OrthoCenter with Dr. Leif Swärd, current doctor for the English National Team," Burns told Soccer365.

"I had two screws removed from my right toe from an old injury I suffered a few years ago. I wasn't under any pain this season because of it, but it was something that I needed to take care of for future problems that could have occurred."

"I return to Delaware on Saturday to start rehab under the watching eye of my long time friend and current physio for the US National Team, James "Hash" Hashimoto, at his clinic, Elite PT," said Burns.

"We are expecting a short recovery time with keeping the toe immobile this week to let the incision heal and then should be back kicking a ball in another week-and-a-half."

The Delaware native is also receiving a bit of offseason interest from top flight Swedish clubs, as well as from foreign suitors, though no official bids have crossed the desk at this time.

"Regarding next season, I have another year on my contract at Ljungskile, but I am also looking at other options with a few other Allsvenskan clubs and clubs abroad that I caught the eye of during my rookie campaign," stated Burns, who bagged three LSK Man of the Match awards and one league Keeper of the Week prize in 2008.

However, a source told Soccer365 that Ljungskile are rather intent on hanging on to the former UMass star and would likely play a bit of hardball in any negotiation. The club kicks off the 2009 Superettan season in April.
