"Any time you can add a defender with experience at a high level it is a positive," said head coach Fernando Clavijo. "Cory is a solid player and can play both centrally and wide on the backline and will add leadership to the team."
Gibbs has been unable to play first team soccer due to injuries since the 2006-07 season while with Den Haag in the Dutch Eredivisie. During his playing career, the Florida native has also played for St. Pauli in Germany, the Dallas Burn in MLS, Feyenoord in the Netherlands, and Charlton Athletic in England.
In international play, Gibbs has 19 caps for the U.S. Men's National Team and was called in for a March 26, 2008 friendly against Poland, but did not appear in the match. Gibbs was named to the 2006 World Cup roster, but was injured in a tune-up game against Morocco and was replaced on the roster.
