Uruguay unveiled their 2016 home and away soccer jerseys by technical sponsor Puma this week.
The small but powerful nation are passionate about the Celeste, one of the most decorated national teams in the world having won the 1930 and 1950 FIFA World Cups along with 15 Copa America titles, the most recent coming in 2011.
The home jersey is in the classic light blue with black trim along the shoulders. This is the first time since 20008 that black detailing has been used on the jersey.
The main feature on the jersey is the subtle ‘May Sun’ design on the front of the jersey. The sun detail stands out among the sublimated horizontal stripes across the front of the jersey. The AUF badge also stands out with a new ‘Photo Realistic’ process making it higher definition.
“I always feel pride when wearing the shirt and this new design that PUMA launched clearly shows who we are as a team, the kind of players we are, and gives us what we need during every match – a shirt that allows us to move freely, that keeps us active and that will help us give our best every game,” Diego Godin, PUMA player and Uruguay’s Captain said. “This new kit keeps the main characteristics that identify us as a nation and that remind us of the greatness we have accomplished. I really loved it and hopefully with this new edition we can write a new page on the rich history of Uruguay’s football book.”
A classic light blue crew neck style collar has more details within, with a gold and black trimmed neckline with a La Celeste graphic beneath. The sleeves have a black shoulder stripe on the shoulders with light blue PUMA cats on each side.
Back to the outside of the jersey, the back side has a black ‘URUGUAY’ name plate under the collar.
This sleek updated look comes with black shorts and socks, with light blue trim and details.
Uruguay’s 2016 away kit is also inspired by the nation’s flag. The jersey has many features the home kit boasts, with other pronounced features. The sleeves have a light blue stripe on its shoulders, with thin gold trim outlining it.
Black PUMA cats are also on each shoulder.
The main design of the jersey are the four light blue hoops at the bottom of the shirt, based from the four blue horizontal stripes seen on the Uruguayan flag.
Like the home jersey, a black PUMA cat is placed on the chest parallel to the national team crest occupying the heart. The back of the jersey underneath the collar has ‘URUGUAY’ printed.
The away kit comes with white shorts and socks and light blue trim and black details.
