Nike called up a host of athletes and celebrities to launch the USA 2014 FIFA World Cup away jersey at the beginning of this month.
We saw the likes of USA national soccer team players Clint Dempsey and Sydney Leroux to sprint superstar Allyson Felix to rocker sisters HAIM to acclaimed film maker Spike Lee don the red, white and blue shirt online after it was unveiled.
Nike has two versions of the new USA road shirt – a basic stadium version designed for fans and an authentic version that is issued to USA players from the youth to senior levels. This a a look at the latter along with its equally impressive and certainly collectible presentation case.
As you can see from our pictures, the presentation case is designed to support Nike’s #RISKEVERYTHING campaign leading up to the Stars and Stripes run again Germany, Ghana and Portugal at Brasil 2014.
Its cover features a glossy skull while the names of the USA’s opponents at the World Cup is printed at its inside bottom. Our favorite feature of the case is that after opening it up, the first thing you see is the text “WE WILL TAKE RISKS”. Very apt given the difficult pool that Team USA must navigate to advance to the tournament’s Round of 16.
Worn in match competition for the first time in a 2-2 draw with Mexico, the USA 2014 Nike away jersey has grown on many with its extremely patriotic colorway. Relatively simple in design, the authentic version of the shirt is very slim fitting as it is designed for the builds of world class soccer players (not put bellies allows). It also features laser cut ventilation on its sides and burnout mesh on its back. These are not present in the stadium version of the kit.
Lastly, in their commitment to environmental sustainability, Nike has made each authentic USA 2014/15 away jersey with an average of eighteen plastic bottles. Wear authentic and save the world! Well done by Nike.
