English kit providers, Umbro are continuing their comeback by picking up two more clubs looking to return to the spotlight. French Ligue 1 sides FC Nantes and RC Lens will both wear the Double Diamond brand for this season. Lens was promoted from Ligue 2 last season. Nantes is in their second season in the top flight, as the club were last relegated in 2008, but came back up last season, while Lens last played a Ligue 1 game in 2011.
Racing Club Lens, Les Sang et Or, or Blood and Gold, begins their current four-year deal with Umbro with a neat pair of kits. One of the most passionately supported clubs in northern France, Lens won Ligue 1 in the 1997-98 season with Umbro as the kit supplier. They will start a new era in Ligue with a striped red and golden yellow home jersey with red shorts and socks, both with golden yellow trim.
Lens’ away kit comes in black with a red and golden yellow stripe pattern. A vertical band on the left side of the shirt (from wearer’s perspective) has a single red and golden yellow stripe coming from the shoulder through the hem at the bottom. The shorts and socks are also black with red and golden yellow trim, with Umbro’s logo in white on every article. Azerbaijan is the club’s newest primary shirt sponsor.
Eight-time Ligue 1 champions FC Nantes finished thirteenth on the final Ligue 1 standings last season, a mid-table spot in their first season back in France’s top division. The Canaries have a pair of simple, yet appealing kits. The club’s home kit is their usual yellow with green trim. The shirt has a unique round collar in green and there are thick sleeve cuffs in the same color. A special version of the club’s badge appears at the heart of the kit, with Umbro’s logo across from it.
The away jersey has the same template, but is in black with fluorescent yellow trim. French-based human resources company Synergie is the club’s longtime primary sponsor, appearing in red on the home kit, and in light green for the away.
