Umbro have left it late, releasing the World Cup colourway for its speed boot the GeoFlare with 24 hours to go until the first ball is kicked.
This release is, along with the unveiling of the UX1 a couple of weeks ago, further evidence that the Umbro we know and love are well and truly back in the game. Coming in a camo green design, officially referred to a Green Gecko Camo/Blackberry Cordial/Safety Yellow this colourway has been designed to create maximum visibility. The colourway is dominated by the simply ginormous Umbro Double-Diamond on the outstep, the largest featured on any of the brand’s boots.
The GeoFlare is Umbro’s speed boot and was released back in July of 2013. It replacied the GT Pro, a boot that never failed to achieve mass popularity, only surviving two incarnations before it was scrapped. Featuring a lightweight micro-fibre upper, the GeoFlare features an enhanced re-ground rubber print at the toe to help control in all conditions. An embossed medial pass pad on the instep also looks to help control by dampening passes received and creating a clean striking zone while in terms of shooting, off centred lacing creates a large strike zone that provides optimal contact.
Despite being released almost over a year ago the GeoFlare has not been seen on the feet of many professionals, partly because of the fact that Umbro lost many of its contracted players to Nike when it was sold by the American giant. Because of this, even though Mauricio Pinilla of Chile has already started wearing this colourway in warm up match, we are not entirely sure who else will be rocking it on the pitch this summer.
