The UEFA Champions League quarterfinal is set with the draw held earlier today at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon. The draw brought with it some interesting storylines with a Madrid derby, which happens to also be a repeat of last year’s final, between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Real won the all-important final last year to win La Decima but Atletico have held the upper hand with 4 wins and 2 draws in the 6 meetings thus far this campaign.  The 2 sides have been frequent opponents facing off in the Spanish Super Cup, La Liga, and Copa del Rey.  The matchdays are April 14 and April 22.

Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain will be familiar opponents after meeting in the group stage.  The 2-sides each won their home match but with little on the line as the two sides easily topped the group and were walking their way to the elimination round. One question mark surrounding the meeting is how Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 1-game suspension for his red card against Chelsea in the last round will affect the first leg.  The matchday are April 15 and April 21.

Bayern Munich and Porto both cruised through their Round of 16 ties, with a 7-0 aggregate over Shakthar Donestsk and 5-1 aggregate over Basel, respectively.  But it is hard not to think that Pep Guardiola’s side will not see this as the best possible result from the draw and feel confident of booking a place in the semifinal.  The matchdays are April 15 and April 21.

The quarterfinals wrap up with Juventus facing Monaco.  These teams are both slightly off the pace of the top contenders but both will be pleased with their chances of taking the tie and then fighting to make the final.

The semifinal draw will follow the quarterfinal ties and be held on April 24 in Nyon.  The 2014/15 Champions League final is at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on June 6.

Who do you think got the best draw?  Who will advance to the semifinal?
