San Siro (or Giuseppe Meazza if prefer Inter Milan) awaits as Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will relive another derby with the UEFA Champions League championship at stake. Last time Real were champions, but this season has made Atletico look better than their rivals. Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale versus Antoine Griezmann and Diego Godin, don’t miss the big game starting tomorrow at 14:45 pm ET on Fox.
Jose Mourinho has been announced as Manchester United manager following Louis Van Gaal’s sacking earlier this week. Mourinho, who conducted Chelsea to one of the most disappointing league starts in their history, has the challenge of returning United to the top places in English Premier League and win Europa League. We are really looking forward to next season’s Manchester derbies, with Pep Guardiola at City.
Douglas Costa has suffered an unexpected injury that ruled him out of Copa América Centenario. Brazil coach Dunga decided to call Kaka to replace Costa, and soccer fans around the world couldn’t be happier about it. You’re just in time to order your Brazil jersey and get it before the tournament kicks-off next week!
Speaking of Copa America rosters, we have put together all the 16 teams for you, come check them out!
Remember New York City heating things up prior to the NY derby last week? Well, things backfired in a spectacular way, with the Red Bulls trashing them with a 7-0 defeat at home. City fans were obviously upset by their team’s poor performance, and it all got worse when their rivals started selling a commemorative “Siete a Cero” jersey for the game.
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. is well-known for being a Messi fanboy, but it seems he also enjoys teasing his father whenever a chance comes up. Speaking to Spanish TV program Jugones de la Sexta, Ronaldo shared an anecdote with his five year old son: “Sometimes he comes at home and says ‘daddy Bale is faster than you’. And I say ‘what are you on about? No one is faster than your dad’. And he says ‘yes but at school they told me he is faster and in an interview Messi said that he’d like to have your right foot.’ He comes up with these things and it gives me joy, he’s a kid.”
Of course MLS player of the week would be a Red Bulls player. Bradley Wright-Phillips was voted this time, thanks to his two goals and one assist during their 7-0 victory in the New York Derby. City fans were not pleased to see Wright Phillips easily score an overhead kick goal with his Puma evoSPEED SL cleats.
This concludes our weekly recap. be sure to come back next week to see what’s happening in our beloved soccer world, and whatever you do, do not dare to miss the UCL final tomorrow!
