Jack Jewsbury has been a steady force for the Portland Timbers since joining the club from Sporting Kansas City in 2011.  He was handed the captain’s armband for the inaugural season and was a part of the club’s first MLS Cup title run last season.

The defender will notch another victory in his victory log with the release of Captain Jack’s Lucky 13 Championship IPA at Hopworks Urban Brewery on Sunday, March 6.  To the best of our knowledge, Jewsbury will be the first MLS player with a beer brewed in his honor.

‘Lucky 13’ is a reference to Jewsbury’s jersey number and his 13 years in the league as well as being a tribute to Portland’s first soccer championship.

Part of the label reads: ‘This NW Style IPA is a collaboration with our friend Jack Jewsbury.  A member of our favorite soccer club and post-match patron of our brewpub.  Captain Jack scored a real game-winner with this beer. Light bodied, golden in color, and highlighting local fruit-forward hops.’

Jewsbury will be on hand to toast the first pint at the brewery’s brewpub after the Timbers opening game of the season.  The limited edition beer will be available on tap at BikeBar and a limited edition bottling run will be available.

A portion of the beer’s proceeds are donated to the Portland based foster care program, Every Child.
