Tim Lincecum is eager to return to Major League Baseball after recovering from hip surgery last September.  The 2-time Cy Young Award winner auditioned for 20 team scouts wearing the official USA Flash Training Soccer Jersey in Scottsdale, Arizona earlier this month.

The 31-year-old has reportedly signed a deal with the Los Angeles Angels with the physical pending.

Lincecum was one of the top pitchers in the game in his prime.  He won the Cy Young Award in 2008 and 2009, made 4 All Star Game appearances, and helped the San Francisco Giants to 3 World Series titles in 5 years.

Known by his nickname, ‘the Freak’, Lincecum has some soccer connections.

He featured in an ad for EA Sports FIFA Soccer 12 against Landon Donovan.

One of his first post on his since discontinued twitter account was praising USMNT star Clint Dempsey after the Deuce scored against Italy:

@timlincecum: “@clint_dempsey @ussoccer just want to say congrats to you and the team on a great job and making the US proud, so pumped for you guys“
