Fox Sports has secured rights to broadcast Bundesliga matches in the U.S. on their channels Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. They will debut their coverage on August 14th when they broadcast the Bayern Munich v Hamburg clash. Throughout the season, Fox Sports 1 will carry 58 matches and Fox Sports 2 will carry a further 60 matches. For Spanish speaking fans, 105 matches will be shown on Fox Deportes, while all matches can be live stream on the Fox Soccer 2 Go app.
The news was met with many applause from Bundesliga fans in the States as Fox Sports has the infrastructure to take coverage of the league to the next level. For the past few seasons, the only way matches could be seen in America was on the hard-to-get GolTV. The coverage was often seen as mediocre and a majority of the matches weren’t even broadcasted live.
Viewers can look back on how Fox Sports took the Premier League to the next level when they began coverage of the league in the mid-2000s. Since then, popularity for the league has sky-rocketed. A deal between the Bundesliga and Fox Sports is beneficial for both parties as well as the fans because the league gets the American exposure it needs, Fox Sports gets ratings and viewership, and fans have easier access to their favorite league.
The Bundesliga seasons kicks off August 14th with Bayern Munich looking to start off their title defense with a win against a struggling Hamburg side. All 306 Bundesliga games can be streamed or viewed over the 5 Fox Sports platforms.
