adidas have unveiled the adidas Predator Instinct Crazylight, the lightest Predator ever. Much like what was done with adidas’ ‘Superlight’ boots, the Predator Crazylight is a stripped down version of the normal Predator Instinct. While the boot is, as its name suggests, crazy light, adidas have still managed to retain the essence of the Instinct but in a package that is almost 100 grams lighter.
One area in which adidas have not sacrificed to make the boot lighter is the upper. On the 190 gram Crazylight adidas have used a Hybridtouch material for the upper, the same as is used on the 277 gram Instinct. While the upper may be slightly thinner, the Hybridtouch upper still offers a blend of the positives offered by both leather and a synthetic. Also retained are the much talked about gel pads originally introduced with the Instinct which are said to aid accuracy, touch and power.
Where adidas have shed most of the weight is on the outsole. Instead of using the chunkier outsole seen on the regular Instinct, adidas have utilized the Sprintframe outsole seen originally on the adiZero and on past ‘Superlight’ creations. This means that the Instinct Crazylight has an external heel counter along with the trademark Sprintframe high speed oriented stud configuration.
In keeping with the design of Predator Instincts of the past, adidas have not held back on the Crazylight. The wild red and pink design on the upper is said to be inspired by a Cheetah, which like the boot itself, is a deadly predator that relies on speed.
The Predator is one of four adidas cleats to have been given the crazylight treatment, along with the adiZero, adiPure and Nitrocharge. The new Predator is set to , on paper at least, be the perfect light weight boot for footballers combining killer passing with speed.
The adidas Predator Crazylight FG (White/Pink/Red) is available at WorldSoccerShop and other fine soccer retailers.
