Rome-based SS Lazio are celebrating their 115th Anniversary during the month of January. The Champions League spot-chasing club has released a limited edition 2015 Macron kit to mark the milestone.
While many teams look toward past glories for anniversary kits, Lazio has opted to base the design of the shirt on two shirts worn during the tumultuous 1980s – their 1982/13 and 1986/87 home jerseys.
The prominent Lazio eagle (taken from their badge) used on the kits became a source of inspiration among I Biancocelesti during a decade in which the team bounced between Serie A and Serie B. Lazio even narrowly avoided relegation to Serie C during one forgettable season in the eighties.
SS Lazio emerged from the 1980s to win the 2000 Serie A title along with five Coppa Italia titles since 1998.
The SS Lazio 2015 115th Anniversary kit was worn for the first time during Saturday’s 3-1 come from behind victory over AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico. The win moved captain Stefano Mauri and his team into third position in Serie A.
