Salgado Rules Out Real Arrivals
2008-08-20 13:31:48

President Ramon Calderon has already declared that Madrid would not be re-entering the transfer market, even though the club have only brought in just three new faces for next season in Rafael van der Vaart, Ruben de le Red and Javi Garcia - the latter two of which are returning from loan deals.

And Salgado feels it is unlikely the decision-makers at the Bernabeu will be influenced by the result of Sunday's Supercopa second leg, where Bernd Schuster's men will need to overcome a 3-2 deficit if they are to claim the first piece of silverware of the season.

"You need to look at these things with a cool head, whenever you lose lots of things come out, but I am convinced about the work of the technical section and those that take the decisions about signings have seen what we need a long time ago, not now.

"These things need to be judged with regards to the season, not one game," said Salgado.

While there now looks unlikely to be any fresh arrivals at the Bernabeu before the transfer window closes on September 1, it also appears that Robinho will be staying with the club.

The Brazil international has attracted the interest of Chelsea and it has been reported that the 24-year-old was keen to join the English side.

However, Madrid are not willing to sell the player, and Salgado believes it is important that the club retain his services.

"I don't know much about the situation regarding Robi, only that I want him to be happy and well in the team," said Salgado.

"He was an important player for us last season and still has a lot more to give to Madrid. He is one of those players who can decide a game."
