Xavi's representatives are believed to have been presented with a contract that will run to 2014, keeping the midfielder at the club well into the twilight of his career.

And with the Catalonia-born star keen to stay with his boyhood club, an agreement is widely expected to be struck in the near future.

"We believe that there are no problems standing in the way of a new deal," the midfielder's father told the Catalan newspaper SPORT.

"Xavi is content in Barcelona and wishes to finish his career with the club.

"The objective is to obtain a deal until 2014. That would be perfect."

The Spain international has been at the club since the age of 11, and despite generating great transfer speculation during his career, Xavi is once again expected to shun outside interest by signing on with the Catalan giants.

"Each year Xavi has received offers from big clubs but has decided not to move," added his father.

"If Barcelona want him then it is nearly impossible that Xavi will leave."

The midfielder himself has kept quiet over the deal, but expects that an agreement can be reached without any serious complications.

"It is normal that Barca desire a long deal and I think it will not be too difficult to reach an agreement," said the 28-year-old.
