In the days prior to kickoff of the monumental CONCACAF Cup clash between the USA and Mexico, a small design shop in Los Angeles was transformed into a living personification of the American spirit and passion surrounding the USMNT.
World Soccer Shop’s Pop-Up shop took over LA’s Soho Design House in preparation for the pivotal playoff match at the Rose Bowl and turned it into a showcase for American soccer lifestyle and merchandise.
What you noticed first when walking through the door may have come down to a matter of personal preference. The DJ’s music, the walls covered with soccer art and historic USMNT jerseys, the painted cleats, the mural, the food and beer – so much soccer culture packed into one room meant soccer fans with varying interests could enter and find their own unique experience in the pop-up shop.
The event crafted by World Soccer Shop, Kicks to the Pitch, and Soho Design House was one of a kind but they didn’t do it all on their own. Special guest Kickasso and work from Stance, GRLA Futbol, and Rob Ozborne as well as support from the American Outlaws helped unite different styles and tastes under one roof of the shop.
Kickasso is well-known among soccer fans. The LA based artist makes cleats (and other shoes) his canvas and had a selection of cleats on display as well as designing and painting a red, white and blue American Outlaws inspired mural.
The walls continued to show the story of passionate USMNT fans with works from Robert Ozborne’s Totally Outlawed painting collection as well as works from the GRLA Futbol’s American Outlaws photographs.
It was not all about art, as the game is still played on the pitch, and gallery included a collection of USMNT jerseys dating back to the early 1990’s with the 1994 World Cup waving red and white stripe home jersey and the denim-blue and white stars of the away jersey the highlight of the bunch.
For some visiting the WSS Pop-Up Shop the goal was getting the look for the match on Sunday and a limited selection of official USMNT home jerseys with the official CONCACAF Cup patch were on hand in addition to Stance’s US soccer sock collection and range of other apparel.
The highlight of the 4-day run for the pop up shop was the VIP party on Thursday night. The evening brought together passionate soccer fans and soccer influencers from around the country who shared their stories of their journey following the Stars and Stripes and talked about Sunday’s match while nibbling on gourmet nachos provided by Juancho’s, sipping Dale’s Pale Ale and Jarritos, and listening to the an on-site DJ.
The World Soccer Shop Pop-Up experience was wrapping up just as the opening whistle of the CONCACAF Cup was blown but for those fans who took a moment to visit experienced first-hand the passion of the game. And for those who could not attend the buzz from social media made the rounds.
