Soccer chants and anthems can he heard from the fan sections at soccer fields around the world. They often serenade one of their own players or mock a player from the other team and this soccer chant by Wigan Athletic fan Sean Kennedy earned him season tickets for next season.
The chant is in tribute of the Latics’ Will Grigg. The Northern Ireland striker scored 25 league goals to help the club win a promotion to the English Championship next season.
Kennedy took to YouTube with his chant Will Grigg’s On Fire sung to the tune of the 90’s dance song ‘Freed from desire’ by Gala and apparent that Kennedy was just brainstorming when he hit on the idea as you can skip past the song to start in his original YouTube post.
The video went viral and soon fans around England were singing the chant.
The form helped Grigg earn a re-call to the Northern Ireland team with him making the 28-man provisional squad for the final friendly before Euro 2016 against Belarus.
It not only struck a nerve with the fans and team but also team owner David Sharpe who announced on his twitter account that Kennedy was getting season tickets for his efforts.
For inventing the best chant ever known to man, you’ve earned yourself a free season ticket for next season @KennoUTJ. Will Griggs on fire ?
