Sheffield Wednesday unveiled a new team badge on Sunday and will transition to the new look ahead of the 2016/16 season. The updated crest was selected by new chairman Dejphon Chansiri and marks the 1 year anniversary of him talking over the Hillsborough side.

“The year of 2016 marks my first full year as chairman of our great club and to commemorate this landmark, I am extremely proud to unveil the new crest that will herald a new beginning for Sheffield Wednesday,” Mr Chansiri exclusively told swfc.co.uk.

The crest stays true to tradition and pays tribute to the 1956 crest which was designed but never worn on the first team jersey.

A more traditional owl, than the owl on the current badge, sits on a limb in the center of the shield with a blue background.  The ‘S’ and ‘W’ of the club initials flank either side of the owl’s head and the white rose of Yorkshire is shown below the owl at the tip of the shield.

The club’s motto, ‘Consilio et Animis’ which translates to ‘By Wisdom and Courage’, was kept and is displayed in black text in the gold scroll below the shield.

“This is such an exciting time to be part of Sheffield Wednesday,” team captain Glenn Loovens added.  “As players, we are proud to represent our badge and this new crest captures perfectly the history of the club as well as defining a new era.”
