By Brian Jennings – Colorado’s Marcelo Sarvas added himself to the Diadora brand stable in 2015 as he joins an increasing number of professionals in the US to ply his trade in the Italian cleats.
Sarvas, a solid veteran midfielder, has played in a variety of cleats in countries such as Brazil, Poland, Sweden, Costa Rica, and also MLS with Los Angeles and now as a Colorado Rapid. However, he has settled on the latest Diadora DD-NA2 GLX 2 14 in the Rocky Mountain State.
While he has moved between color schemes of White/Black/Fluo Yellow and now White/Red/Green, Sarvas tells World Soccer Shop he likes the lightweight comfort for a game like his which is always on the move. “I think every shoe you can get used to, every brand has a different mold. This Diadora I like-it’s very light, I like the skin it’s very soft, it fits very well to my foot-we have a good combination.”
The GLX 2 14 was built with that light, comfortable fit in mind beginning with the SuprellPro3L (soft synthetic) for lightweight durability, excellent touch through the special touch control treatment, with minimum weight, but designed to mold to any foot shape as Sarvas can attest to. In fact, Sarvas’ Diadoras weigh in at a measly 6.2 oz-the lightest versions ever for the Italian company.
As Sarvas told World Soccer Shop, he has never been averse to trying different brands throughout his career. So, it was on the recommendation of a fellow Brazilian, and current Tampa Bay Rowdies player, that Sarvas made the jump to Diadora.
“Last year I spoke with Marcelo Saragosa. He was still playing in MLS, and he was sponsored by Diadora and he gave me the contact. We spoke and I got an agreement with them. It’s better if you get a sponsor so you can have all you want.”
A man of faith, Marcelo Sarvas also adds his own personal touch to his Diadora boots as reminders of his inspiration. In addition to the names of his children, Sarvas also adorns the outside of his boots with a verse from Joshua 1.9, which translates to, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
