Cristiano Ronaldo is the most popular or we should say most searched men’s soccer player according to Google’s Year in Search 2015 tabulations for U.S. searches.  The Real Madrid and Portugal player has been in form scoring 53 goals and adding 16 assists in his 55 appearances for club and country on the field not to mention his iconic stature off the field.

It should come as no surprise that the other 2 finalists for the 2015 Ballon d’Or, Lionel Messi and Neymar, finished the year in 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the rankings.  The Barcelona duo are joined by Luis Suarez at #5.

They were not the most searched among soccer players, however, as US women’s national team players Alex Morgan and Hope Solo busted into the Top 10 list for trending athletes at #5 and #6, respectively.  Others on the list include #1 Ronda Rousey, #3 Stephen Curry, and #4 Manny Pacquiao.

Needless to say, Morgan and Solo were tops on the list of trending women’s soccer player at #1 and #2. After an impressive Women’s World Cup that included a hat-trick in the final, Carli Lloyd took the #3 spot.  And with news that she was hanging up her cleats at the end of the year, Abby Wambach settled in at #4.
