Since signing with Nike in 2003, Cristiano Ronaldo has pulled on over 60 different editions of the famous Nike Mercurial soccer cleats and the Real Madrid forward hinted that his new contract was ‘for life.’ Nike had a more formal take on the relationship stating it will continue ‘well into the future with a long-term contract.’
The deal is believed to be similar to the lifetime deal LeBron James signed with Nike last year that was rumored to be worth over $1 billion.
Ronaldo’s signed with Nike while with Sporting Lisbon in 2003 shortly before his move to Manchester United. He has grown to become the face of Nike Football (soccer) along with Brazilian Neymar. The 31-year-old has helped in the developing of the Nike Mercurial Superfly silo giving firsthand feedback to designers over the years and has even helped promote the brand’s fitness lines.
And don’t be surprised to see more from Ronaldo even after he leaves the field. Ronaldo has been involved in fashion for years, starting his own men’s line in 2013 so no telling what Nike could have in mind for the future.
