The importance of El Clasico can’t be overstated. The match-up between Barcelona and Real Madrid regularly determines title races and Cup destinies.  This season is no different with a mere point separating the 2 sides at the top of the table when they meet at the Nou Camp on Sunday, March 22 at 4 pm ET.

Short History of the El Clasico

The importance of the game and the number of fans around the globe watching is not lost on the brands  adidas and Nike are both using the match to market their top player, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, respectively in a new colorway of their signature cleats.

Messi has been seen breaking in his new Pibe de Barr10 cleats in Barca training sessions.  The cleat, inspired by the Barrio of Las Heras, Rosario where Messi learned to play the game, was released on Monday.  The Argentine international has been in great form with 5 goals over the last 2 matches and 32 on the 2014/15 La Liga campaign.

Ronaldo’s Mercurial Superfly CR7 was only released on Wednesday but not to worry, the Real Madrid forward is comfortable in the new look pulling them on at Real’s Ciudad training ground.  The Portugal international has scored 30 goals this La Liga campaign but he along with the squad have not been playing at their best recently.  The last league goal for Ronaldo came in the 1-1 draw to Villarreal to open March.

The irony to the cleat match-up between the brands it that each brand’s signature player’s team wears the other brands jersey.

Who will win El Clasico?  Real Madrid or Barcelona?  Who will win the battle of the brands?  Adidas or Nike.  Will you be watching on Sunday?
