Real Madrid and technical sponsor adidas have partnered with Parley for the Oceans to unveil a limited edition jersey as part of Parley’s efforts to end plastic pollution of the oceans. Los Merengues will wear the jersey when they face Real Sporting de Gijon on Saturday, November 26.
The jersey features a unique look from the 2016/17 Real Madrid home jersey. The Madrid Parley jersey is solid white with the club badge, adidas Performance logo, and club front-of-the-jersey sponsor in off-white and applied with a water-based print. This application was used to make the jersey as sustainable as possible.
Mesh inserts are used on the sleeves to help improve ventilation and the inside of the collar includes a neck tag with ‘For the Oceans’ printed on it. A Parley/adidas loop label with NFC chip is included on the lower left corner of the jersey.
28 plastic bottles collected from the coastal area of the Maldives are used in each jersey.
“The Ocean is a place I hold close to my heart after growing up in Rio de Janeiro and I have fond memories of playing on the beach when I was a kid,” Real Madrid defender, Marcelo, said. “It’s amazing to be part of this project and to know that the club I love is making a difference in helping to keep the oceans clean.”
The mission of Parley for the Oceans is to end plastic pollution in the oceans through Parley A.I.R. The A.I.R. strategy focuses on Avoid, Intercept, and Redesign to achieve their goal.
