By Brian Jennings – Colorado finally released their alternate jersey for 2015 just 2 days before debuting the kit in Philadelphia for the season opener. Continuing their theme from the last two seasons, the new away kit is based on the colors of the Colorado state flag, with a predominant yellow replacing the blue of the last couple of seasons.
The Adizero jersey from Adidas is being touted as the lightest in the history of the sport. The Rapids styling continues to incorporate the popular features of the state flag at the hem, the C form featured in that flag embossed directly into the front of the jersey, and “5280” (the altitude of Denver, CO) featured on the back neck.
In addition to the yellow, the player numbers and letters are being called “true blue” applied to the back, along with the new MLS logo on both sleeves, adidas 3 stripes, and hem all in a similar blue color reminiscent of the Colorado state flag. The third color from the flag will be red and is seen in a small swatch in the V-neck portion of the collar as well as along with blue in the crest on the chest. The single star signifies Colorado’s MLS Cup won in 2010.
Coloradoans are immensely proud of their state and flag so this new jersey is a fitting tribute to that mindset. No word on whether or not the color will remain the same in the shorts and socks, but the Rapids will debut the new away kit Saturday, March 7 against the Philadelphia Union.
