Who is the top English player to score thus far in the English Premier League? Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Daniel Sturridge? Nope that honor goes to Saido Berahino who hit a brace in West Brom’s 4-0 win over Burnley. Check out the 2014/15 EPL Golden Boot Table to see how Berahino compares with the leaders.
It was the 2nd time this season that the striker laced up his Nike Mercurial Superfly cleats and scored a double. The 21-year old scored both goals in the West Midlands club’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland in the second week of the season.
The only other multiple goal outing last weekend was from Edin Dzeko. The Manchester City forward opened his account with a brace in the 4-2 win over Hull City. The 28-year-old was back in his Adidas adiZero F50 in Solar Blue.
And there were 6 players who hit for a consecutive match after opening their accounts last week. The players all stand on 2 goals for the season but maybe they are just hitting their true form and are ready to charge to the top of the table in the coming weeks. The 6 in-form players are Crystal Palace’s Frazier Campbell and Mile Jedinak, Stoke City’s Peter Crouch, Manchester City’s Frank Lampard, West Ham’s Diafra Sakho, and Manchester United’s Robin van Persie, who was wearing a blacked out version of his adidas adiZero F50 cleats leading some to believe his time with the 3-Stripes could be coming to an end.
Chelsea’s Diego Costa continues to lead the pack in the Premier League. He added to his total with a goal on Saturday taking him to 8 on the season.
The most interesting look of the week has to go with Graziano Pelle. The Southampton striker was wearing the Nike Mercurial Superfly in Laser Orange/White/Black but has opted, like an increasing number of other players, to cut off the ankle cuff. You can see the jagged edge from his homemade modification.
The total for the weekend was 25 goals and 1 own goal from Man City’s Eliaquim Mangala for the weekend. Nike is still the top scoring brand with 77 goals with adidas a close second place with 70 goals followed by Puma with 9 and Umbro with 2 goals.
And the silo leading the way is the adidas adiZero F50 with 32 goals followed by the adidas Predator with 23 goals. Nike’s Mercurial Vapor has scored 21 goals while the Mercurial Superfly adding 16 goals. A total of 37 for the Mercurial cleats.
Next week’s fixture list is highlighted by the battle of the last 2 unbeaten teams, Chelsea and Arsenal, in a heated rivalry. Stamford Bridge hosts the Gunners and will have fans wondering if a shaky Arsenal defense can stop Costa or for that matter the Blues team.
