The Barclays Premier League is going where no European soccer league has gone before, the U.S. big screen. The first match to be shown in movie theaters will be the London derby between West Ham and Tottenham on Saturday.
The idea to show matches at movie theaters is a well-thought out move by Fathom Events which signed a contract to show the matches with NBC Sports Group, the Premier League rights holder in the U.S., in July. The recent World Cup showed the desire of soccer fans to watch matches in large groups and with the early kick-off times the local bar or restaurant didn’t provide the best answer to family friendly watching.
33 movie theaters have been selected to show matches this season. Fans interested in seeing if their city will show matches or for ticket information should visit FathomEvents.com.
