Valencia Football Clubs has incorporated a bat in the club’s official crest since 1922 but the club’s plan to update the logo was scuppered when Batman and D.C. Comics objected to the Spanish club’s trademark registration request.
The new modern design was intended for a casual wear line but is no longer planned to be used.
The new logo was planned to have the bat wings raised upward rather than arching downward and was not going to be included along with the team crest. The look did include similar qualities to the Batman logo and variations used over the decades since Batman first appeared in 1939.
DC Comics did not file a lawsuit with the Office of Harmonisation of the Internal Market (OAMI) as was reported by some sources.
