Nike and Portugal have stepped outside the box with the recent release of the national team’s new home jersey. The new look combines national symbols and a new design to make it stand-out from their other home jerseys of recent years.
The jersey stays true to tradition with the red color but it uses a dual tone look on the upper half of the jersey with dark red and bright red horizontal stripes. The varying stripe widths give the jersey a sense of speed.
The Portuguese Football Federation badge is over the left chest. And for the centenary celebrations the years 1914 and 2014 flank either side of the cross on the badge.
The jersey includes a dark red with green trim V-neck collar and sleeve cuffs.
The inside of the collar includes a red and green pennant that features an Armillary Sphere. The Armillary Sphere is a navigation tool and is a tribute to the long seafaring history of the nation.
The custom jerseys will include special name lettering and numbers inspired by typefaces used in traditional Portuguese signs that has a modern twist on Art Deco lettering.
The full kit is completed with dark red shorts and socks.
