Nike has given Portugal a facelift with their 2014 away jersey.  The classy white and blue jersey will have most fans happy for the shift away from the more traditional green and red detailing colors of recent away jerseys.

Portugal_away2_2014The blue color also traces back to the Portuguese national flag.  There are 5 blue quinas (shields) on the Portuguese Shield and much like on the flag the blue is subtle but noticeable.

The tailored white jersey has blue details on the sleeve cuffs, the collar, and the Nike swoosh.
Portugal_awaySmall_2014The most distinctive feature of the jersey is the 2-level stand-up collar.  The first layer is a rounded polo style in white creating a smooth transition from the jersey while the second is an open stub stand-up in blue.

The Portugal Football Federation crest is over the left chest with the dates 1914 and 2014 on either side of the cross in tribute to the Federation’s centenary.

A white pennant tab is inside on the back of the collar and features the Order of Christ.  The Portuguese cross is a tribute to the seafaring past and the fact that many ships that sailed under the flag of Portugal had this cross on the sails.

The jersey utilizes all the latest Nike apparel technology.  It is made from a combination of Nike Dri-Fit and mesh panels and uses laser cut ventilation holes to improve breathability.

The names and numbers will be custom and have the look of an old typeface used on traditional Portuguese signs.

Portugal_awayRonaldo_2014Blue shorts and white socks will complete the Portugal 2014 away soccer kit.

Nike also pulled out a fresh look for the 2014 Portugal Home Soccer Jersey.  Check it out.
