Pele is the best soccer player of all-time! And now is your chance to own a piece of the player’s memorabilia. The 3-time FIFA World Cup winner is offering some of his prized possessions through an auction by Julien’s Auctions on June 7-9 in London.
Pele: The Collection includes pieces from every stage of the brilliant Brazilian’s career both professional and personal. The top of the collection must be his World Cup medals from 1958, 1962, and 1970 but also includes items such as a replica Jules Rimet Trophy he was presented by FIFA and the Mexican government after winning the 1970 World Cup, signed Santos FC jerseys, his first club, the match ball that he scored his 1,000 goal, match worn cleats, the torch he carried when he ran the 2004 Summer Olympics relay.
“Pele is like the Marilyn Monroe of the sports world. He is such an icon and a great ambassador for soccer,” Martin Nolan, executive director of Beverly Hills-based Julien’s Auctions, told Reuters.
And it touches on his time in the United States with the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League with Pele’s 1977 Cosmos NASL championship ring included for auction.
“I have decided to allow fans and collectors to own a piece of my history as well,” Pele said of the auction items. “I hope they treasure these artifacts and share my story with their children and generations to come. I will also be donating a portion of the proceeds from the auction to Pequeno Principe, the largest pediatric hospital in Brazil.”
But don’t expect to find any bargains. The Pele: The Collection limited edition catalog runs $300 and can be ordered from Julien’s Auction as well as a special signed edition of the catalog that runs $1,000.
