Soccer brands work hard to keep jersey and cleat launches secret until the time for the official unveiling. But in most instances, it is a losing battle. adidas and the Orlando Pirates took matters into their own hands and leaked a fake jersey as a teaser only to official unveil a different look days later.
The leaked jersey had a green body with black shoulders and sleeves and red details for the collar and adidas’ 3-stripes. Fans were relieved when a more traditional black home look and red away look was official unveiled a few days later on July 17.
“We worked closely with adidas to create this fun teaser, where our players genuinely thought they would be playing in a green home jersey for this season. It was all for a good cause in the end and our players appreciated their new black kit even more.” added the Brands’s Activation Manager, Tokoloho Moeketsi.
The black home jersey features a white polo collar and the adidas 3-stripes down ¾ of the sleeve. It is the first time the white has been on the jersey since the club’s 75th anniversary look in 2011. Fans will see the return of white as a good omen. The last time it was used the team won the treble.
Red details are used on the sleeve cuff along with a horizontal band from the collar to the sleeve along the collarbone. The back of the jersey has a band detail across the shoulders similar to other jerseys in the adidas line.
Fans will be very pleased that the away jersey is red. Red has been a fan favorite over the past couple of years. The solid red jersey has a white polo collar and the white 3-stripes down the sleeve. The sleeve cuffs are black and white. The away also includes the band detail across the shoulders.
