First introduced in 1998, the Nike Mercurial Superfly is a leader when it comes to revolutionizing speed on the field. The goal of the cleat is to provide players with the needed tools to get to the ball the fastest and then have the touch to score the goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo was on hand in Madrid, along with Soccer365, to unveil the new cleat.
And it was immediately obvious that this cleat was a new generation with the high-top Dynamic Fit Collar (DFC). The collar is designed to improve the fit and make the cleat more an extension of the foot rather than a cumbersome piece of apparel for the foot.
The DFC is not the only new feature of the cleat. The Nike Flyknit technology is used to have less material between foot and ball (which also cuts down on the weight) and improve a player’s touch on the ball.
And added studs at the heel and additional traction at the toe to give the perfect finish touch to the last 10% of a player’s stride.
And it should come as no surprise that the Real Madrid and Portugal forward was wearing a pair of the new cleats in the recent Nike ‘Risk Everything’ ‘Winner Stays’ video also released today.
Get in the Game. The Nike Mercurial Superfly will be available for pre-order and then for sale on June 12 at the World Soccer Shop.
