No sooner had Cristiano Ronaldo won his third Ballon d’Or than Nike released a special ‘Rare Gold’ Mercurial Superfly CR7 to honour the Real Madrid star.
Nike have chosen gold because gold is earned. Ronaldo has earned these boots thanks to his tremendous play throughout the year, and his record-breaking statistics.
In a unique design and a first for Nike, micro-diamonds have been applied by hand to the CR7 logo on the side of the boot.
Micro-diamonds are created when craftsmen cut away at larger stones, leaving these remnants behind. The commitment to keep chipping away at something already impressive was the inspiration for the boot, as Ronaldo continues to look for improvements in his game.
Ronaldo will be wearing these boots at the Bernabeu on Thursday as Real Madrid look to turn it around in their Copa del Rey tie against city rivals Atletico.
