Nike have released a special edition Hypervenom Phantom that will be worn by Neymar Jr. for the rest of the tournament.
Despite the fact that Neymar already stands out on the pitch with his incredible skill and talent, Nike have created a very special gold version of the Hypervenom Phantom that takes inspiration from his childhood. According to Denis Dekovic, Nike Football’s Design Director, ““When we met with Neymar he told us that when he was 12 he used to spray paint his boots gold. He said that he always wanted a pair of gold boots but that he couldn’t find them anywhere. So we took that insight and decided this summer would be the perfect moment to create this boot for him,”

Not only did Nike take inspiration from Neymar’s childhood, but they also worked closely with him to design the colourway itself. “The biggest challenge was getting the gold tone perfect so it had the right spray-painted look,” Dekovic said. “We worked closely with Neymar to get it as close to how he remembered the colour when he would apply it as a kid. We’re all delighted with the results and can’t wait to see it on pitch.”

Neymar officially launched the Nike Hypervenom last year, indicating his role as the face of the new boot. Now one year on he has epitomized the description that comes along with his role, as that of a deadly attacker, with three goals in three games for Brasil.

Who knows? If Neymar keeps up his great performances and Brasil go on to win the World Cup, this boot could become as iconic as the Nike Mercurial Vapor R9 worn by the great Ronaldo in 1998.
