Nike has added some flash to their cleat line-up with the release of the Mercurial Vapor IX Fast Forward ’02 Edition cleat. The Silver/Volt/Black cleat is a tribute to one of the game’s greatest players, the original Ronaldo.

Vapor_02_1Ronaldo scored 8 goals, including both goals in the final against Germany, in leading Brazil to the 2002 World Cup title.  O Fenomeno was hard to miss that year not only for his Golden Boot performance but also for his flashy silver Mercurial cleats and hairstyle.

Ronaldo_2002The graphic, colors, and prints on the cleat are all 2002 while the technology is all 2014.  This cleat oozes class, style, and performance.  The silver upper is the perfect backdrop for the bold black Nike swoosh along with a vibrant volt yellow NIKE lettering.

A black heel logo of ‘02M’ provides the tribute back the inspiration while the sole insert tells the full story of Ronaldo’s summer in South Korea and Japan.

Vapor_02_4The 2002 version of the cleat was groundbreaking as it was the first under 7 oz.  The Mercurial range continues that tradition with this cleat weighing in at 6.6 oz.  The cleat has new composite chassis sole and All Conditions Control upper.

Vapor_02_5And while the Nike cleat was classic, Ronaldo’s hair-do might not have stood the test of time.
