Pachuca´s Marco Bueno became the first of the talented crop of Mexico´s Under-17 World Cup winners to make a big impact in the first division this weekend, when he scored two late goals to give his team a 3-1 victory over Puebla.

The striker entered the field in the 69th minute when the score was 1-1 for his third substitute appearance in Mexico´s top league.

For the first of his double, Bueno ghosted in at the near post in the 76th minute to steer the ball in first time from a right wing cross. The second was a simple finish into an empty net.

“I want to repeat the performance,” Bueno told the press after the game. “I´m very happy. I hadn´t imagined scoring a double but I did dream that one day I´d get two goals.”

Bueno, who had a trial at Liverpool back in August and is still on the English club´s radar, is the first of Mexico´s feted U-17 World Cup winners to make headlines at first team level.

Mexico´s U-17 World Cup winning captain Antonio Briseño has made two substitute appearances for Atlas´ first team, but is mainly playing in the Under-20s this season. He also scored this weekend.

Influential WC midfielder Jorge Espericueta was also on the scoresheet for Tigres U-20s, but has yet to make a first team appearance for the Mexican champions.

Forward Julio Gomez, who starred in the U-17 World Cup semifinal against Germany, has been hit with injuries since last, while striker Carlos Fierro is now a regular on the bench for Chivas.

The big result this weekend in Mexico was Fierro´s Chivas losing for the second straight week, falling 3-1 to Jaguares and putting coach Fernando Quirarte´s position under threat early in the season.

In other results: America 1-1 Toluca, Atlas 0-0 Cruz Azul, Pumas 3-0 Morelia, Tijuana 1-0 Monterrey, Estudiantes Tecos 0-2 San Luis, Tigres 1-0 Queretaro, Atlante 1-2 Santos Laguna
