Donovan Assists Everton Win

A handful of Americans suited up abroad on Tuesday, Landon Donovan garnering his fourth assist in as many games to help Everton top league leaders Manchester City 1-0.

The US star set up Darren Gibson for the second half winner, while club and country mate Tim Howard booked the shutout with three saves.

Also, Brad Friedel backstopped Tottenham to within five points of the summit in a 3-1 victory over visiting Wigan.

A level down in the Championship, Jonathan Spector held down right back as Birmingham stayed hot with a 4-1 win at Leeds United.

Another tier down in League One, Anton Peterlin worked 61 minutes as Walsall fell 1-0 at home to Notts County.
