Sir Keith Mills believes it would be unworkable for Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp to adopt a part-time role with England.
Spurs boss Redknapp is the bookies' odds-on favourite to take over from Fabio Capello after the Italian resigned over the FA's decision to strip John Terry of the England captaincy.
Non-executive director Mills says it will be Redknapp's decision to take the role if it is offered but everyone at the club wants him to stay at White Hart Lane.
Asked about him carrying out the England role part-time, he told Sky Sports News: "I don't think that's really workable."
Mills added the club have received no approach from the FA as far as he was aware.
"We can't do anything and neither can Harry until the FA have decided on their short list," he said.
"We've said to Harry - and frankly Harry's said to us - that he loves the club, we love him at the club, the spectators love him, the players love him, the coaches love him, we all want him to stay, it's a fantastic job, he loves it.
"But I guess there's something special about being the England manager and I don't know whether, ultimately, he'll make that decision.
"At the end of the day, it'll be Harry's decision.
"You can't force somebody to do a job to be honest and it doesn't matter what the contract says, if somebody's heart is somewhere else and it doesn't matter whether it's a player or a manager, you need to let them go.
"But Harry has a contract with the club and provided the FA honour that contract, we'll be just fine."
Juventus won the Scudetto with an impressive unbeaten run in Serie A.
