Steve Bruce remains a major contender to become the next Wolves boss even though other candidates will be interviewed during the next 48 hours.
The midlands club will resume their search on Thursday for the sacked Mick McCarthy's successor after having to write off hopes of securing either Alan Curbishley or Brian McDermott in the role.
Former Charlton and West Ham boss Curbishley knocked back Wolves' approach for a second time while McDermott has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract with Reading.
Bruce was maintaining late on Wednesday evening that he had not spoken to either Wolves owner Steve Morgan or chief executive Jez Moxey since his initial interview on Friday.
But it is believed that the former Sunderland, Birmingham and Wigan boss is still under consideration from the Wolves hierarchy.
Bruce, who has relocated back to the midlands, remains keen on the role even though he has been exasperated at the lack of contact during the past five days.
He has also received a negative reaction from some sections of Wolves fans over his possible appointment.
Morgan and Moxey are intending to speak to other potential suitors on Thursday and Friday although it is likely now caretaker boss Terry Connor will be in charge of Saturday's game at Newcastle.
The likes of Blackpool's Ian Holloway, Birmingham's Chris Hughton and former Sunderland and Ipswich boss Roy Keane have been linked with Wolves.
Gus Poyet revealed on Wednesday night that Wolves had approached Brighton to secure his services but insisted he "never had a decision to make".
Wolves have previously denied reports they have made an approach for Poyet who, though, spoke after his side's 0-0 draw at Hull.
He said: "There was an approach but it came and went.
"I didn't have any decisions to make, anything to think about. I was not involved at all.
"It was not difficult for me, I was not involved at any time."
Attempting to sign up a manager already in work could be a lengthy process and Wolves do not have time on their side as they strive to move out of the Premier League's bottom three.
Connor will also conduct Thursday's pre-match press conference at the club's Compton training ground.
McCarthy was sacked 10 days ago in a split boardroom vote after five-and-a-half years at Molineux.
McDermott had impressed the Wolves duo with the way he turned the Royals into a promotion-chasing force in the npower Championship on limited resources.
But the 50-year-old has committed himself to the Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2015 with a contract which has replaced his previous 12-month rolling deal.
