Beckham: MLS Cup Equal to Other Silver

Published: Tuesday, 22. November, 2011 in category Serber's Say

David Beckham played his role in the Los Angeles Galaxy winning their third MLS Cup and in the tunnel following the match he said it did not matter what trophy you claim, European Cup, Premier League, etc they ‘all mean the same.’ Check more of what the players said after the game from Marc Serber at the Home Depot Center.

David Beckham in the tunnel:

On how this title compares to others he’s won in the past:

It doesn’t matter where I’m playing, what country I’m playing in, what team I’m playing in. When you’re successful, when you win trophies, they all mean the same. The European Cup, the Premier League, La Liga, they all mean the same thing.

On his “cold”

I tore my hamstring four days ago and obviously we told everyone it was a cold. I tried to sniff through the press conference but I don’t think anyone believed me.

David Beckham Press Conference:

On future:

At Manchester United I was lucky, I won a trophy almost ever year of my contract. At Real Madrid, obviously, it was just coincidence that we won my last year there. And I’ve won, obviously, a trophy here in my fifth year. I said before, I need to sit back and relax and enjoy this moment and then decide what I’m going to do. I might talk in past tense every now and then, but it doesn’t mean I’m not coming back. At the end of the day I need to decide what’s best for me, what’s best for the team, and my family. Then will see. But it’s been an amazing five years, amazing to be part of a team Bruce [Arena] has coached. Like I said before last week, its been the most enjoyable time of my career here in America the last few years and this has just topped it off tonight. Like Landon [Donovan] said, our owners make it easy for us. We are very lucky players and a lucky team in this league. Our owners brought in Bruce, Bruce brought in our players that we got. I hope we’ve rewarded all the players tonight because TONIGHT IS GOING TO BE A GOOD NIGHT!! (About the fifth time he said that to which Donovan responded, “you’re pretty excited about tonight.”)

LA Galaxy Head Coach Bruce Arena Press Conference:

His initial feelings on winning the title:

I think its fabulous. As a team we set goals. In 2009 when we made it to the finals we maybe jump-started our team a little bit in one year to be in that position and maybe we wouldn’t of appreciated the value in winning a championship and how important it is and how hard it is. We went through last year and fell short in the conference final and then this year we were determined. We worked our asses off to get there and that makes it even sweeter because nothing was given to us. We worked our asses off to try and build this team to be a champion. We got it down and its just unbelievably rewarding.

On whether or not this Galaxy team is the best team in the history of MLS:

I don't know if were the greatest team in the league. We had some great teams at DC United and Dominic Kinnear has had some great teams at Houston. But we had damn good year.

On Beckham:

The guy is as good as it comes. He has an unbelievable desire to win. He is a great teammate and a great person. I am so happy for him. He’s done it all in every country he’s played in. What more can you say about a guy like this and what he’s brought to the team and this organization in five years. I’m really thrilled for him. He gutted it out tonight. He obviously wanted to be there and my hat goes off to David.

On Beckham’s future:

Whatever Beckham decides to do, he's earned that right to do it. So ill support whatever he wants to do.

On moving Donovan from midfield to forward:

It was always part of the thinking. It was almost like we thought it would happen in and around the 60th minute mark that we’d make that switch bringing somebody in and moving Landon up top. That was a move I think we did in the Salt Lake game as well. Obviously a great goal and you talk about finishing, Landon got it done for us.

Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching on the fans:

They have been fantastic from the start. They’ve been with us from the start and I can’t thank them enough. We are excited to be moving into a new stadium next year with them and they provide some of the most special moments for us. On the field memories. I know Dom [Dominic Kinnear] talked about in the past about games at home. Our Dallas 2006 game was pretty special and tonight and in 2007 they were there in full force as well. But they filled a full section of the stadium and Texas is a long way away. I think we have the best traveling fans in the country.

Galaxy substitute Chris Birchall:

This is why players come to America. We’ve been fighting for it ever since we lost it two years ago and we wanted to win it. We didn’t want that disappointment again and today I think we deserved it. We didn’t take all our chances, but we took the one that counted.

On winning the MLS Cup front of the LA Galaxy fans:

It’s great! Today just felt like a home game because we had the majority of the crowd. I think its going to be the case now that the top team will play the final at home so were just happy for the support we’ve been given all season and we carried it home.
